Residential Program

Discover college life at UM. Residential students live on the main campus in one of the University of Miami’s residential colleges. Accommodations are air-conditioned and include Internet hookup, desks, beds and bureaus for two students. Study lounges, laundry facilities, and vending areas are located inside the residential college. Students have easy access to the University’s outstanding sports and recreational facilities. 

Residential Program (Three-Week, Credit) includes:

  • Instruction – Tuition, lab fees, class trips, textbooks/printed materials 
  • Room – Double occupancy room 
  • Meal Plan – 3 meals per day, 7 days a week while on campus  
  • Student Services 
    • UM Student Health Center (doctor’s visits)
    • Wellness Center (fitness and intramural facility) 
    • UM Identification Card (‘Cane ID)
    • Student Activities:  planned programs and excursions, including transportation for off-campus events

Getting to UM:  Students provide their own transportation to and from Miami. Housing opens on Saturday, July 6 at 1 p.m. and closes on Friday, July 26 at noon. Airport transportation is available for students flying to and from Miami International Airport (MIA). For the airport shuttle schedule refer to the Summer Scholars Student Handbook. Important to note, residential students are NOT permitted to bring a car to campus.

Please note, tuition and all fees are mandatory and will be billed to the student's account.

Fees not included: Transportation to and from campus, meals off campus, shopping, spending money, medical expenses.

Commuter Program

The Commuter Program is for students who will live at home with parents or relatives in Miami-Dade or Broward County. 

Summer Scholars is designed for the enjoyment of all students. As part of the program, commuters attend classes, eat lunch on campus, and take part in program activities. Commuters who appreciate their experience most participate in the evening and weekend activities. SSP activities give students time to bond with a diverse group of people outside of class and form long-lasting friendships. The individual student experience will be shaped by activity choices and level of involvement on-campus.

Commuter Program (Three-Week, Credit) includes:

Tuition and Fees 2019

Summer Scholars Three-Week Credit Program

Residential Program: $8,187 (tuition $5,990 + program fees $2,197)
Commuter Program: $6,957 (tuition $5,990 + program fees $967)
Marine Science Exploration Fee (marine science students only): $325

Optional Workshops for Non-Marine Science Students

  • Shark Tagging with UM Marine Conservation Program: $225
  • Dolphin Encounter in Key Largo: $175
Program Deposit

To secure a place in the Summer Scholars Program a $500 nonrefundable deposit is required within two weeks of receiving acceptance notification. The deposit is credited toward the tuition fee. The program fee balance is due June 1.

Commuter Parking Permit
Commuters may purchase a parking pass for $45.* Residential students are not permitted to bring cars to campus, nor travel in commuters' cars.

* Fee subject to Parking and Transportation rates.

Other Expenses

Students should bring additional funds for personal expenses, meals off campus, food delivery, shopping, and spending money.

Alumni

University of Miami Alumni receive $500 off tuition for the Summer Scholars Credit Program.**

Employee Tuition Benefits

Tuition Remission is available for eligible employees for the Summer Scholars Credit Program.**  The benefit is applied to tuition ($5,990). Please note program fees are not covered by Tuition Remission. Contact HR Benefits Administration for eligibility.

**The Alumni Tuition Waiver and Employee Tuition Remission Benefit do not apply to the UM Academies – Two-Week, Non-Credit Program.

Please note: If a student is eligible for multiple forms of financial assistance, then the student will be considered for only one form of financial assistance based on eligibility.
