University of Miami Pre-College offers credit and non-credit programs for high achieving high school students who are active in their communities, leaders in their schools, and examples of integrity.

International students have the opportunity to study in the United States and experience college life on an American campus. While participation in the Pre-College Program does not guarantee admission to a college or university, the successful completion of a pre-college program demonstrates the student's potential to study in English at the university level. All applicants whose native language is not English (U.S. citizens and Non-U.S. citizens) are required to submit official or unofficial results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The language proficiency test scores are required for both the Summer Scholars Three-Week Credit Program and the UM Academies Two-Week Non-Credit Program. For non-native English speakers submitting the TOEFL or IELTS, competitive applicants generally score above the following: For information, visit the University's English Proficiency Requirements page. To request a waiver, complete the Pre-College Request to Waive TOEFL or IELTS Form in the Pre-College Status Portal.
Complete and submit the Pre-College Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $75 nonrefundable application fee. You will also need: You are highly encouraged to apply early. Please review the application deadline schedule.
After you apply, you will be sent a confirmation email with instructions on how to log in to the Pre-College Status Portal where you will be able to upload supporting documents and track your application. Note: Access to the Pre-College Status Portal will be available 48-72 hours after you submit the Pre-College Application. Please plan accordingly to ensure both your application and supporting documents are submitted by your preferred application deadline.
If you attend high school in the United States, submit your official high school transcripts directly from your high school. A school official may submit them electronically via Slate.org, SCOIR, or Parchment. They can also be emailed directly from your school official to precollege.docs@miami.edu. Applicants can also upload an unofficial copy of their transcript directly in their Pre-College Status Portal. Upload a copy of your most recent report card to the Pre-College Status Portal. As part of the University of Miami Pre-College application process, we ask that a parent or guardian confirms that they are aware of their student’s application and involvement. The Parent/Guardian Permission Form will be sent to the email address of the parent designated as the primary document signatory on the student's Pre-College Application.
Personal Essays
To help us get to know you in the application review process, you are required to upload two essays (300-600 words each) to your Pre-College Status Portal, answering the following questions:

Continuously check your Pre-College Status Portal to ensure you have completed all the required steps. Once all of your application materials are received, your application will be reviewed. Should the Pre-College Admission Committee need additional information, a notification will be sent to the email on your application. Decision notifications will be sent on a monthly basis beginning in mid-January according to the Admission Plans.
International applicants must upload the following to their Pre-College Status Portal: *Summer Scholars applicants only
An F-1 student visa is required for non-U.S. citizens* applying to the Summer Scholars Three-Week Credit Program (students cannot attend with a B1/B2 visa). Students must upload either a) a signed bank letter on official letterhead stating that the person responsible for your living and personal expenses while studying at the University of Miami has a minimum of $9,600 in his/her account, or b) a recent bank statement showing a balance of $9,600. If you are already studying in the U.S., upload a copy of your student visa and I-20 to the Pre-College Status Portal. * Applicants admitted to the Two-Week Non-Credit Program do not require a student visa. However, a TOEFL or IELTS score is still required for non-native English speakers.
